Top 9 Mistakes Website Owners Make

As a WordPress website owner, it's important to be aware of some common mistakes you can make that can lead to problems down the road. Here are 8 mistakes you should avoid:

  1. Do not maintain your WordPress installation updated. Updates often include security fixes, so it's important to stay on top of them.
  2. Not using a strong password for your WordPress admin area. A strong password must be at least 8 characters long and include a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.
  3. Using an insecure hosting provider. Make sure your server has good security measures in place to protect your site from hackers.
  4. Allow comments on your site without moderating them first.
  5. Use your administrator account for daily tasks. You should only use the administrator account when you need to perform important site functions, such as updating plugins and themes. Try to avoid doing routine tasks like creating new posts or pages with it.
  6. Not backing up your site regularly. This is a crucial step that you need to take on a regular basis. A backup will ensure that your site doesn't go down if something goes wrong. You should back up your site at least once a month and store your backups on a remote server. If you don't have access to an offsite backup solution, consider using a plugin like BackUpWordPress or UpdraftPlus to back up your site on a daily basis
  7. Install unnecessary plugins. You may end up installing various plugins that end up affecting the speed and security of your website. Many plugins are not even compatible with each other. Think: "Is that plugin essential for the performance of my website"?
  8. Forget image optimization. Images are the key elements of your content marketing tactics. The average human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than text. Therefore, include formulas in your content and optimize them. Here are some main image attributes that are optimized:
  • Alt Text: This is a brief description of what the visual includes. Sites must have alt text to rank. The alt text is the only thing your users will configure to load or open.
  • Title – Used on a separate page that opens when the user taps on the image. Modify the file name while uploading it in WordPress.
  • Description – Displays additional information about the visual on a separate page alongside the title. If you allow users to open a separate attachment page, make sure you have all the details noted down.
  • Image: The title attribute appears when you hover over an image. Image title attributes can be anything from an image title to a description or a separate piece of text.
  1. Avoid SEO strategies. Search engine optimization can be a complicated task, but a necessary one. Content marketing is a complex field, and day by day, experts somewhat agree that content writing is not just about writing blog posts. Content overload is real now. There is simply too much content being produced everywhere, and organizations are competing over content quality.
